Appraisal – The Newsletter of the Judges’ Interest Group

Everyone interested in showing and judging gesneriads can subscribe to Appraisal. This newsletter, published in January, May and September, contains information on chapter and convention flower shows, tips on judging, questions from judges and other articles of interest to the judge and gesneriad exhibitor alike.

Subscriptions are available via email (sent via PDF in full color) for $3 per year, or standard mail, with gray scale illustrations, for $6 per year. 

The Gesneriad Hybridizers’ Association

The Gesneriad Hybridizers' Association (GHA) celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2006. GHA is an interest group of The Gesneriad Society.

The focus of GHA is hybridizing gesneriads and sharing information about hybridizing in the group’s newsletter, CrossWords, which is published three times a year and contains articles of interest to gesneriad hybridizers. CrossWords is available to GHA members either as a full-color PDF attachment sent via email or as a postal mail copy with gray-scale photos. 

Another membership benefit is the GHA seed fund. A list of hybrid seeds is published in each issue of CrossWords.

GHA meets once a year at The Gesneriad Society convention to conduct business and present a program, accompanied by slides and PowerPoint presentations. One or more hybridizers discuss recent hybrids and there is a raffle of a wide variety of new hybrids. This meeting is open to all members of The Gesneriad Society.
