July 5- July 9
Philadelphia LOVES Gesneriads

LogoPHILADELPHIA WELCOMED US!!
This summer, the City of Brotherly Love added gesneriads to its long list of attractions when the annual Gesneriad Society Convention took place at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia. Hosted by the Liberty Bell Chapter, the 55th annual Convention, held July 5 through 9, was a showstopper. Convention attendees attended presentations that were a blend of scientific and “how-to” workshops, a garden tour to Chanticleer, one of the great gardens of the region, and marvelous closing dinner with dinosaurs at the Academy of Natural Sciences, highlighted by discussions about the Academy’s herbarium collection. And Mayor Nutter issued a proclamation recognizing the 60th Anniversary of the Gesneriad Society. Thank you, Mayor Nutter!

From the hotel’s convenient location at the heart of Philadelphia it was a short walk to the historic district, the convention center, Reading Terminal Market, Chinatown and City Hall, in Centre Square. Those who came early were able to enjoy the fireworks and other 4th of July activities.
